There is a profound beauty in the everyday objects that serve us. This still life is a nod to the Dutch tradition of celebrating the kitchen, the hearth, and the home. I was fascinated by the challenge of painting copper—the way it warps and warms the light, contrasting with the cool, matte texture of the lemons and the rustic cloth.
Technically, this work explores the concept of 'materiality.' I wanted the viewer to feel the coldness of the metal and the zest of the fruit. Using layers of glazes and precise highlights, I brought the copper pot to life, making it glow from within against the moody background. It is a celebration of simple, organic abundance.
